The origins of the Boone and Scenic Valley railroad date back to 1893, when transportation was needed to haul coal out of the town of Fraser, Iowa.
In 1907 the line was electrified, and electric train cars moved passengers and frieght in great numbers.
Passenger numbers gradually declined and in 1955 the electric lines were removed, leaving deisel locomotives to handle the remaining freight operations.
In 1983, the Boone Railroad Historical Society was able to purchase and preserve the railroad.
Today, Rail Explorers proudly partners with the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad to showcase this section of iconic track.
