About the Route

Through the Limestone Hills.

Built in 1888, the Louisville Southern Railroad once carried passengers from Lawrenceburg to Versailles and Lexington.

Young's High Bridge, visible from the turnaround at Tyrone once had the title of the highest railroad bridge in America. The bridge is 1,659 feet in length, is 283 feet above the Kentucky River, and includes a 551 foot long cantilever span.

Bungee jumping is now offered from a platform in the middle of the bridge!

Passenger operations ended in 1937 and freight on the railroad continued until 1979.

The Bluegrass Railroad Museum and Rail Explorers now offer scenic rides on this historic 5 mile section of track.
